What is Special Accommodation?
Many students who have limitations due to ADD/ADHD, learning differences, neurological disorders or other disabilities are eligible for special accommodation testing for standardized tests and for school placement. This can make a significant difference in a student’s score on one of these tests.
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, students with documented disabilities, such as, but not limited to ADD/ADHD, are eligible to take many tests such as the ISEE, PSAT, SAT, SSAT, LSAT, ACT, HSPT, GRE, with Special Accommodations such as:
- Providing additional testing time,
- Providing a quiet room,
- Providing an isolated testing session,
- Providing a test reader for the student; and,
- Allowing the student to give answers orally.
Each test has it’s own prescribed test battery for Special Accommodation.
Special Accommodation Evaluation for Academic Institutions:
Due to learning differences or behavioral problems, we work closely with the individual school, school advisor, teacher, parent and student to help relieve the stress, aggravation, frustration and judgment due to the student’s limitations. This evaluation can help to determine to what degree the school problems are due to thinking skills limitations versus behavioral or emotional disorders.
