Our program can change your outlook on how you face your illnesses.
Many people experience greatly increased stress and worry and the feeling of being overwhelmed and unable to cope with everyday life after having been diagnosed or beginning treatment for a serious medical disease.
A large portion of these feelings comes from the limited options available for the treatment of many diseases, and the submissiveness required of a patient in treatment. What more can be done other than taking medication or a surgical treatment?
The CCPS Mind-Body Center is meant to help you actively cope with and fight your disease.
Although it’s important to recognize that every medical disorder has its own special issues & problems, there are many problems or issues common to many diseases.
- Pain management.
- Fatigue and/or sleep problems.
- Difficulties with doctors & medications.
- Stress and sad/angry/anxious moods related to health problems.
- Thinking problems due the disease or medications.
- Interference with your usual lifestyle.
- Changes in your relationships with others.
- The need to establish new health habits.
The CCPS Mind-Body Center will help you learn how to better manage diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, stroke, heart attack/ cardiovascular disease, asthma, obesity, and a variety of other medical disorders. We teach you coping and problem-solving skills. We teach you biofeedback so that you can reduce or relieve your stress and worry and we teach you how to manage your pain.
Many diseases or treatments leave people concerned that they are not thinking as well as they did in the past. We can help you to resolve these concerns. We can actually measure your thinking skills to determine the severity and extent of such a problem, determine the likely cause, and provide feedback to your physician to enhance your treatment. We can teach you skills that will help you in developing new health habits such as exercise, better sleep habits and a more healthy diet. Each of these approaches has been shown by research to improve your thinking abilities in different ways and will also reduce other troublesome symptoms.
Our experience, (which can become yours) and has been supported by a variety of research studies, is that when you manage these problems, you will not only feel better, but your disease symptoms can often be reduced. We also know that if you don’t address these issues, that symptom relief will be very limited.
The CCPS Mind-Body Center can help you cope better with your illness and, in many cases, to reduce symptoms of these common medical problems, as well as issues particular to your specific disease. |
